My Dad Was Right, Leg Strength Is Key

My Dad Was Right. Leg Strength Is Key For Lowering Your Scores!

The golf bug bit me hard at age 12. I had fallen in love with the game that year after breaking 80 for the first time in a local tournament. After much persuasion, my mom wrote a note for the bus driver to drop me off at the course every day after school. If there wasn’t enough light to squeeze in 18 holes, I’d practice until dark and walk home. My daily routine from that point on: school, golf, dinner, homework, repeat. I wanted to be the best I could be, so I asked my Dad – who is also the head pro at our local course – what is the single most important thing I can do to shoot lower scores? His answer: “strengthen your legs.” My reply: “but you swing the club with your arms, not your legs!” I rejected his advice immediately.  Read more.

Brandon Conner: Brandon Conner, PT, DPT grew up an avid Virginia Tech Hokie fan, so much so, that he earned his undergraduate degree in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise from there in 2010. In 2013, Brandon graduated from Lynchburg College’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program. He joined the Tidewater Physical Therapy team this summer and treats patients in the Gloucester Point clinic with Clinical Director, Karen Kovacs, PT, MPT, OCS. Brandon’s treatment philosophy is closely aligned with how he aims to live his life. That is to “understand not only the world around me, but also the people I meet and the places they’ve come from, which allows me to improve as a public servant. I strive to remain empathetic and open minded to the world around me and to live each day with as much positive energy and emotion as possible.” Because of Brandon’s passion for golf, he hopes to layer in working with golfers through the Titleist Performance Institute as one of his specialties. Remember that Brandon is a die-hard Hokie fan? If he’s not in the clinic, you might find him enjoying any Virginia Tech sporting event, playing the drums or stargazing.
