Could Bio-Identical Progesterone Replacement Prevent Disease?

bio-identical progesterone replacement

Progesterone is a pregnancy hormone that naturally exists in a women’s body. As women enter their transitional years, progesterone and estrogen become unbalanced as progesterone production declines. Women may describe feelings of anxiety, depression, irritability, difficulty sleeping, headaches and mood swings. Women can greatly benefit from natural, bio-identical progesterone as it balances many other hormones and nutrients in the body.

Synthetic progestin (medroxyprogesterone or MPA) is NOT the same as bio-identical progesterone. When choosing a progesterone replacement, it is critical women use bio-identical, micronized progesterone and not the synthetic form MPA. Research has shown progesterone is neuro-protective against cerebral damage and directly affects the neurotransmitters that regulate mood, appetite and sleep. These beneficial effects were blocked by MPA. As women age, the risk of osteoporosis and breast cancer increases. Numerous studies indicate that progesterone stimulates new bone growth and reduces breast cancer cell proliferation. Furthermore, progesterone provides significant protection against cardiovascular disease by raising good HDL cholesterol, and lowering high blood pressure.

Women wanting to prevent disease and improve their health should supplement with natural bio-identical progesterone and use it for life.
