Don’t have plans next week? You do now! The Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships is once again taking over Virginia Beach for a week of sport, music and good spirits. The competition, now in its 55th year, is the second-oldest continually running surfing championship in the world, and brings nearly 1,000 surfers of all skill levels to the shores of Virginia. You won’t want to miss this!

The competition, which dubs itself the Atlantic coast’s crown jewel of surfing, is much more than just surfing, however. It has evolved over the years into a multifaceted beach sports and entertainment festival that, this year, includes beach volleyball, stand up paddle boarding, a Miss ESCS pageant and live music from Ballyhoo!, The Expendables and Passafire. All events are free and open to the public.

“We are honored and blessed to be able to give back to the east coast action sports community through the Coastal Edge ECSC presented by Vans,” says D. Nachnani, president of Coastal Edge. “It is amazing to see the generations of board riders that converge here every year in Virginia Beach to celebrate this 55 year old event. We are also very appreciative to the Jaycees, the city of Virginia Beach and all of our sponsors without whose help, this event could not possibly take place and be as memorable has it has become. The gratification it brings us to be able create hundreds of thousands of memories every year is truly indescribable. We are just very happy to be a part of it.”

The Coastal Edge ECSC is presented by Vans, produced by the Virginia Beach Jaycees and fueled by Monster Energy Drink. Heats by age, gender and skill level will take place between August 20-27. The beach area between 1st Street Jetty and 5th Street will be in use for the Championship, so visitors to Virginia Beach are asked to plan accordingly.
